冬季オリンピック (The Winter Olympics)

2026年冬季オリンピックがついに終わりました。初日、雪に覆われたイタリアの山岳風景を見て息をのみましたが、その風景に象徴されるような壮大な大会でした。
今回、私は白熱したカーリングの試合をずっと見てしまいました。この競技は、氷上のチェスとも呼ばれていますね。ストーンの動きを追い、氷を滑る音やストーン同士がぶつかる音を聞いていたら、チェスで遊んだ楽しい時を思い出しました。そこで、私がチェスを始めるきっかけになった本を引っ張り出してきました。「ボビー・フィッシャーのチェス入門」(河出書房新社)です。世界王者によって書かれたこの本を私がご紹介するのも恐れ多いですが、シンプルな問題が詰まった気軽に取り組める本です。本を開くと、とある局面の絵があり、どんな手を指せばよいか考えさせられます。そしてページをめくると、答えの盤面が現れます。通勤時間やお昼休みに、色々な問題を解いて楽しんだものです。これからチェスを始めようという方にお勧めの一冊です。楽しんで解いているうちに、着実に強くなれるはずです。
オリンピックの終わりと共に、春がやってきています。この2週間、改めて、一生懸命に技を磨き、互いに競い合って最高のものを目指すっていいな、と思いました。私もテレビを離れて、人と対戦しに出かけたいと思います！

The 2026 Winter Olympics is finally over. On the first day of the Olympics, I took a breath to see the scenery of mountains covered with snow in Italy. I think this convention was magnificent as the great scenery symbolizes.
This time, I have been watching the heated matches of curling for a long time. As you know, this game is also called “Chess on ice”. It reminds me of the fun times of playing chess by watching the stones moving and hearing the stones gliding and crashing. So, I brought out a book which made me start playing chess. It is a Japanese translation of "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess". I am humbled to introduce this book written by the world champion, but it is a casual book with a collection of quizzes on how to play chess. When you open the book, there is an illustration of a chess board. You have to think about the position and turn to the next page when you come up with a good move. Then you will find an illustration of the answer. I used to enjoy solving the different chess quizzes during the commute and lunch break. If you are starting to chess, I recommend this book for the first time. You will be certainly stronger playing chess and having fun.
The spring is coming with the end of the Olympics. During these two weeks, I realized once again how nice it is to polish technics and aim to do one’s best competing each other. I will stop watching TV and go out to see people to compete!
