5月より日本弁理士共同組合主催の「弁理士事務所職員講座＜外国出願手続実務＞」が始まります。昨年は新型コロナウイルスの影響で中止となっておりましたが、今年はオンラインで開催されるとのことで、私も参加を予定しています。
引き続き新型コロナウイルスによる影響で外出できない日々が続いていますが、この機会により業界知識をつけられるよう勉強していきたいです。

１１月１２日にドイツの欧州弁理士とオンラインミーティングを行いました。コロナウイルスの影響で、外国代理人の訪問がない中、久しぶりの英語でのミーティングで、同僚とともに英会話を楽しむことができました。ミーティングでは、EPOに継続中の異議申立案件、ドイツでのコロナの状況、事務所の働き方について、話を聞くことができました。今回のミーティングがうまくいったので、今後は積極的に外国代理人とオンラインミーティングを利用できればと思います。
We had an on-line meeting with our friend, European Attorney from Germany on November 12, 2020. Under no visit of attorneys from oversea due to Corona Virus in this year, the on-line meeting excited us. During the meeting, we discussed the updates of the outstanding opposition case, the situation of the Corona Virus in Germany and how to work in his law firm. Since this meeting was successful, we are going to hold on-line meetings with other foreign attorneys from now on.
長雨で涼しかった7月が終わり、8月に入ってからは連日猛暑となっていますが、新型コロナウイルス感染症の猛威は衰えていません。当所では、新型コロナウイルス感染症対策として、大半の所員が在宅勤務を行っており、出勤者が6割を超えないようにしております。また、所内では常に換気を行い、感染リスクを下げる環境下で業務を行っております。このような状況ではありますが、web会議等のツールにより、クライアントとの打ち合わせも通常通り行っております。
新型コロナウイルスの一日も早い収束と、皆様の健康を心よりお祈り申し上げます。
July, which was cool due to long rains, is over, and it has been extremely hot every day since the beginning of August, but the epidemic of Covid-19 has not diminished. Most of our attorneys and staffs are working remotely to prevent from the infection of Covid-19, and we try not to exceed 60% of the staff working at our office. In our office, we are working in an environment that reduces the risk of the infection while constantly ventilating our office. In such a situation, we have meetings with clients as usual using tools such as web conferencing.
We sincerely hope that the spread of Covid-19 will settle down and things will get back to normal as soon as possible, and you remain healthy.

2019年11月15日に、ドイツより、Ter Meer Steinmeister & PartnerのHollatz先生、Rumi先生が御来所されました。今回のミーティングでは、欧州特許出願における明確性要件を満足する数値範囲の補正方法等、特に化学系の出願で重要な対処方法をご教示いただき、大変有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。

On November 15, 2019, Dr. Hollatz and Dr. Rumi of Ter Meer Steinmeister & Partner visited our firm all the way from Germany. In this meeting, we learned how to deal with important issues especially in chemical applications, such as how to amend a numerical range that satisfies the clarity requirements in European patent application. It was such a meaningful meeting for us to learn a lot.

2019年8月29日、Greenblum & Bernstein, P.L.C.のSchlapkohl先生が、アメリカ合衆国バージニア州よりはるばる来所してくださいました。
この機会に、当所の案件で審判請求に成功した際のご尽力へのお礼を申し上げることができてよかったです。ミーティングでは、最近のアメリカの判例を教えていただき、大変有意義な時間を過ごさせていただきました。
On August 29, 2019, Dr. Schlapkohl of Greenblum & Bernstein, P.L.C. visited our firm all the way from Virginia, United States.
We were glad to take this opportunity to express our thanks to him for his efforts in the success of an appeal in one of our cases. It was such a meaningful meeting for us to learn a lot about the recent judicial precedents of the U.S.
７月１日に弁理士制度１２０周年の記念式典・祝賀会がありました。記念式典では、寛仁親王妃信子殿下のお言葉をはじめとして、内閣総理大臣、衆議院議長、参議院議長、最高裁判所長官、経済産業大臣によるお祝いのお言葉を頂戴いたしました。明治32年の弁理士制度発足から大正、昭和、平成、令和と続く弁理士制度の一端を担えて大変光栄に感じました。
A ceremony and a celebratory party for the 120th anniversary of the Japanese patent attorney were held on July 1, 2019. In the ceremony, we received words of congratulations by the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the House of Councilors, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as the words of Nobuko, Princess Tomohito of Mikasa. I felt very honored to be one of the Japanese patent attorneys who have continued through the Meiji Era, the Taisho Era, the Showa Era, the Heisei Era, and the Reiwa Era since the establishment of the Japanese patent attorney in 1899.
