ムーガタ(Moo Kratha)

こんにちは。
東京では連日雨が続いています。本日で34日連続で、これまで最長だった2019年の33日連続を上回り、統計開始以来の最長記録を更新したそうです。
ここまで雨が続くとまだ猛暑の方がよかったな、などと思います。(来年、真逆のことを言っているかもしれませんが)
なかなか気分も晴れやかにいきませんが、めげずに頑張っていきましょう。

さて、先月姉が住むタイ・バンコクに遊びに行ってきました。
旅行ではあまりチョイスできないような場所に色々と連れていってもらい、とても思い出に残る訪問となりました。
その中で、皆様にも紹介したいタイ料理を発見しました。

それが写真の、ムーガタ(Moo Kratha)と言われる料理です。

タイ式焼肉と鍋がひとつになった料理で、中央のドーム状の鉄板でお肉を焼き、周囲の溝に入れたスープで野菜や春雨、豆腐などを煮込んで食べます。
鉄板で焼いたお肉の肉汁やうまみが周囲のスープに落ちて、後半からもどんどん美味しくなっていきます。
私は初めて食べたのですが…とてつもなく美味しかったです。

姉の現地のお友達に教えてもらったのですが、タイの家庭では一家に一台ムーガタ鍋を持っているくらい、定番の料理のようです。
私が知らなかっただけかもしれませんが、まだあまり日本人には馴染みがないタイ料理な気がします。もっと流行って日本にもお店ができたらいいなと感じました。

まだムーガタを食べにタイに遊びに行けるいいなあと思いながら、明日もお仕事頑張ります。

It’s been raining continuously in Tokyo. Today marks 34 consecutive days of rain, breaking the previous record of 33 days set in 2019, which makes it the longest rainy streak since official record-keeping began.
With so much rain, I almost find myself wishing for the intense heat back instead! (Though I might be saying the exact opposite next year...)
It’s hard to feel refreshed with weather like this, but let’s hang in there.

Anyway, we visited my sister in Bangkok, Thailand, last month.
She took us to various places that tourists wouldn't normally get to choose, making it a truly memorable trip.
Among those experiences, I discovered a Thai dish that I’d love to share with everyone.

It’s the dish shown in the picture, called Moo Kratha.

It’s a combination of Thai-style barbecue and hot pot. You grill meat on the raised central dome, while simmering vegetables, glass noodles, tofu, and other ingredients in the broth around the edge.
As the juices and flavors from the grilled meat drip down into the surrounding soup, it becomes even more delicious as you eat.
It was my first time trying it, and... it was unbelievably delicious!

According to my sister’s local friend, it’s so common that almost every household in Thailand has a Moo Kratha pot of their own.
Maybe I was just unaware, but it doesn't seem very familiar to people in Japan yet. I really hope it becomes more popular and that we start seeing more restaurants for it here in Japan!

Hoping I can visit Thailand again just to eat Moo Kratha, I’ll do my best at work tomorrow as well.
