仙台の魅力とおすすめスポット (The Charm of Sendai: Recommended Tourist Spots)

皆さんこんにちは。先日夫の実家がある宮城県仙台市へ、子どもを連れて家族旅行に行ってきました。
仙台は「杜の都（もりのみやこ）」と称される通り都会と自然が調和する街で、東京からは東北新幹線で約1時間半とアクセス抜群です。今回は、実際に足を運んで感じた仙台の魅力をブログでご紹介させていただきます。

仙台に到着してまず訪れたのは、アンパンマンの世界を体験できる「仙台アンパンマンこどもミュージアム＆モール」です。こちらは体験型施設が充実しているのですが、今回は平日ということもあり都心の同施設に比べて混雑することもなく、非常に快適に過ごすことができました。大迫力のアンパンマンショーには子どもも大興奮。落ち着いて楽しみたい方に、仙台のミュージアムは穴場として大変おすすめです。

続いて足を運んだのは、仙台市街を一望できる高台にある「八木山動物公園 フジサキの杜」です。自然に近い環境で動物たちが飼育されており、アフリカゾウやキリン、ホッキョクグマなど様々な動物に出会える歴史ある動物園です。子どもにとってはこれが人生初の動物園となりましたが、ゆっくりと一つ一つの動物を観て回ることができました。

今回の旅で感じたのは、東京や京都といった主要な観光地に比べると、仙台はまだ外国人観光客の数が比較的少なくゆったりと観光を楽しめるインバウンドの穴場かもしれないということです。グルメも充実しており、観光だけでなく食の面でも楽しむことができると思います。(牛タンは外国の方には少し珍しい部位かもしれませんが、他にも海鮮や笹かまぼこ、ずんだなど魅力的なグルメがたくさん揃っています。)
8月には夏の風物詩である「仙台七夕まつり」が開催されます。伊達政宗公の時代から続く伝統的なお祭りで、街中が色鮮やかで巨大な和紙の七夕飾りで埋め尽くされます。これからの季節、ぜひ仙台への旅行を計画してみてはいかがでしょうか。

Hello, everyone. Recently, my family and I took a trip to my husband’s hometown, Sendai Miyagi Prefecture. Sendai, often referred to as the “City of Trees” (Mori no Miyako), has a great balance of rural and urban lives. Also, it is easily accessible from Tokyo by the Tohoku Shinkansen. (taking just about 90 minutes) So, I would like to share the charm of Sendai and some recommendations for sightseeing.

The first place we visited was “the Sendai Anpanman Children’s Museum & Mall”. *Anpanman: Japanese famous animation for children
The museum features a wide range of interactive exhibitions, allowing children to immerse themselves in the world of Anpanman. Since we visited on a weekday, the museum was much less crowded than similar facilities in Tokyo area. Our daughter really enjoyed watching the character stage show. If you’re looking for more relaxed experience, I highly recommend visiting the Sendai museum instead of Tokyo.

Next, we headed to “Yagiyama Zoological Park Fujisaki no Mori” which located on a hill overlooking the city of Sendai. There is a wide variety of animals, including African elephants, giraffes, and polar bears. It was our daughter’s first visit to a zoo, and we were able to explore and observe each animal at a relaxed pace.

One thing we noticed during this trip is that, compared to major tourist destinations like Tokyo and Kyoto, Sendai still has relatively few international visitors. Thus, it might be a hidden gem for international visitors who want to enjoy sightseeing at a relaxed pace.
Also, there are many dining options, so you can enjoy not only sightseeing but also local cuisine. While beef tongue (one of the famous foods in Sendai) might be unfamiliar to international visitors, Sendai is also famous for other local specialties, including fresh seafood, sasa kamaboko, and zunda, all of which international visitors are sure to enjoy.

In August, the Sendai Tanabata Festival, one of the summer highlights, will be held near Sendai Station. This traditional festival has been held since the period of Lord Date Masamune(famous samurai). The streets will be filled with huge, colorful Tanabata decorations made of Japanese paper.
